Sit in your wheelchair with your feet resting on the floor, and ensure the brakes are applied.
If safe to do so, shuffle toward the front edge of your wheelchair.
Position your feet shoulder-width apart flat on the floor.
Place your hands on your knees for assistance.
Stand up whilst tensing your buttock muscles, and walk your hand up your thighs for support.
Stand tall and pause briefly.
Reach back for the chair to check its position and for support when sitting back down.
Repeat.
