Sit upright with your shoulder blades pulled back.
Ask your assistant to measure a piece of kinesiology tape from the upper third of the outside of your upper arm to the outside edge of your collar bone.
You will need a roll of kinesiology tape as well as an assistant for this technique.
This technique will provide your shoulder with postural support and aim to provide pain relief.
Cut a slit along the centre of the tape to form a two inch or 5cm body and 2 long legs.
Trim off all the corners of the kinesiology tape to form curved edges.
Fold the piece of kinesiology tape along the bottom of the legs then tear the backing paper.
Apply the body of the tape under no tension so that the ‘V’ between the tape’s 2 legs is over the upper third of the outside of your upper arm.
Move the hand of your affected arm towards your opposite hip.
Whilst holding this position your assistant will need to apply the back leg of the kinesiology tape under the desired amount of tension around the back of your shoulder so that it finishes on the outside edge of your collar bone.
Next, move the hand of your affected arm as if you are pointing towards the ceiling.
Whilst holding this position your assistant will need to apply the front leg of the kinesiology tape under the desired amount of tension around the front of your shoulder so that it finishes on the outside edge of your collar bone.
Ensure good contact with your skin.
Return your arm to the starting position.
Finally, your assistant will need to measure two further pieces of kinesiology tape from the front to the back of your shoulder travelling horizontally.
Apply the end of the second piece of kinesiology tape under no tension starting at the front of your shoulder.
Apply the desired amount of stretch to the kinesiology tape and fixate this towards the back of your shoulder travelling horizontally.
Ensure the tape is smooth and that there is no folding of your skin to prevent blistering.
Apply the third piece of kinesiology tape in the same manor, overlapping the second by 50%.
Rub the kinesiology tape to ensure a good adhesion is achieved.
